Lorette's Handknits

Loretta began her entrepreneurial career in 1995 when she started selling her knitted creations when she began renting tables and selling her knitted and woven creations at craft sales throughout Thunder Bay. At the same time, she became actively involved in the PARO Presents store since its inception, where she participated as an enthusiastic volunteer and consignor.

As a talented knitter, weaver and spinner, Loretta has developed a business that not only creates beautiful, useful products, but is also committed to being environmentally conscious. She has expanded her offerings, and now creates with all-natural materials including wool, alpaca and even dog hair, which she spins and weaves into household items and apparel. She also creates hand-woven bags from recycled shopping bags, which were recognized by the Government of Ontario 2009 when Loretta was won the provincial “Think Green” award.

In addition to her business achievements, Loretta is a dedicated volunteer. She has generously offered her time to numerous causes including mental health, programs for seniors, church activities, international efforts to improve medical equipment in Cuba, as well as serving as a board member for the Oliver Agricultural Fair, and serving as president of the Thunder Bay Weavers and Spinners Guild for six years. For all of this work, Loretta was honoured in 2008 with the Senior Achievement Award from the Governor General of Ontario. She is now focusing her efforts on assisting newborns and young children in our local community, while she continues to be an integral part of the success of the PARO presents store.
